What you are getting

A high-grade stainless steel chimney starter with a hexagonal body, a wide base, specialized ventilation holes and a Bakelite handle rated to 302 °F.

The only listing here that addresses tipping over

“Hexagonal shape provides better stability than round chimneys, with a wide base to prevent tipping”

A chimney full of lit charcoal has to stand somewhere for ten to fifteen minutes, usually on the grill grate. A round cylinder on a bar grate can rock and roll; flat faces sit.

And a chimney of burning coals going over is the worst outcome in this whole category — worse than any of the pouring problems that Char-Griller and The Bincho Grill solve with a trigger and a second handle.

Nobody else on this shelf mentions it.

The only handle temperature published

302 °F Bakelite. That is 150 °C, and Bakelite is a thermoset — it does not soften as it warms, does not conduct, and does not absorb water.

Eleven other listings say “stay-cool”, “ergonomic”, “nylon”, “ABS” or “wooden”, with no figure at all.

Stainless, not galvanized

Seven starters here are zinc-coated. The Bincho Grill is the only listing that argues the point — uncoated stainless has “no paint or zinc finish to peel, flake, or burn off” — and this is one of only three stainless bodies on the shelf, at $29.99 against the Bincho’s $43.73.

What is not published

No dimensions. No capacity. No weight. No lighting time. No warranty. For a $29.99 starter, that is a thin page.

The questions that come in

Does the hexagon actually help?

Yes, for the reason the listing gives, and no other listing on this shelf raises it. A chimney starter full of lit charcoal has to stand somewhere for ten to fifteen minutes, and in practice that is on the grill grate — a surface of parallel bars. A round cylinder resting on bars has two contact lines and can rock; a hexagon has flat faces that sit down on them. KU-koruo states both halves: "hexagonal shape provides better stability than round chimneys, with a wide base to prevent tipping". That matters because a chimney of burning coals going over is the worst thing that can happen in this category — worse than the pouring problems that Char-Griller solves with a trigger and The Bincho Grill with a second handle.

Is 302 °F enough for a handle?

It is the only figure on this shelf, which is the point. 302 °F is 150 °C (302 °F), and what matters is where the handle sits: out on an arm, shielded from the column, so it never sees coal temperature. Bakelite is the right material for it — a thermoset phenolic, which means it is cured rather than melted, so it does not soften as it warms the way a thermoplastic does, and it insulates well. The listing adds that it does not absorb water or conduct electricity. For comparison, the other eleven starters here say "stay-cool handle" (both Kingsfords), "ergonomic" (Weber), "nylon" (CADARA, Eau), "ABS" (Char-Griller) or "wooden" (homenote) — and give no temperature at all.

What is missing from this page?

The measurements, and on a $29.99 starter that is a real gap. There is no diameter, no height, no capacity and no weight — where ten listings on this shelf publish dimensions, three publish a capacity (6.6 pounds, 100 briquettes, 4 pounds) and nine publish a weight (603 g (21.3 oz) to 1,588 g (56 oz)). There is also no lighting time, where CADARA and BEAU JARDIN both say 10 to 15 minutes. So you cannot tell whether this is a full-size chimney for a 22-inch kettle or a compact one — and the difference matters, since Kingsford’s Compact warns explicitly that it is "not a full-sized chimney". What the page does give is the material, the shape, the handle rating and the reasoning behind all three.
