Kesper

FSC acacia, and a granite mortar with its weight published

A board and a mortar.

The mortar, and why the weight is the specification

Granite, Ø 16 cm (6.3 in), 8.5 cm (3.3 in) high, and 2.8 kg (6.2 lb) published. Weight is what a mortar does: a light one skids across the worktop and a heavy one stays where it is while you work. It is the number that separates a usable mortar from a decorative one, and it is published here.

The board

32 × 21 × 1.5 cm (12.6 × 8.3 × 0.6 in) in FSC-certified acacia with a juice groove, stated knife-friendly. FSC is a chain-of-custody certification about where the timber came from — a documented claim rather than a general one.

The caution about a polished mortar

The listing states a polished surface. A polished interior grinds less efficiently than a rough one; it is easier to clean and it takes longer to break down a peppercorn.

The one to look at first
