A square pan uses more of the space over a round ring than a round pan does, and its corners take the sausages. It is a genuinely more efficient shape for a grill pan, and it is why the format exists.
A coating means no seasoning and easy washing. It also means the pan cannot be driven to the temperature that produces hard, dark marks, because that temperature is above what coatings tolerate. Marks from this pan are lighter than from the iron pans in this hub, and that is inherent rather than a fault.

Marks come from very high heat, and a nonstick coating has a stated limit well below what bare iron takes. That is inherent to a coated grill pan rather than a fault in this one.
