Multira 3-stage with removable block review

A three-stage sharpener whose entire sharpening block lifts out for cleaning, on a base heavy enough to stay put while you pull.

What we would actually buy A removable block is the right answer to the problem every pull-through has. The unpublished angle is the standard gap.

What you are getting

A three-stage manual sharpener with an ergonomic handle held at a safety distance from the blade, a heavy base plate, and a sharpening block that lifts out completely for cleaning.

The removable block

Better than a removable head. Filings collect between the wheels, and a sharpener that cannot be opened slowly stops cutting — which people usually read as the tool wearing out.

The base

Heavy enough to stay put while a knife is drawn through it. A sharpener that slides is a sharpener being held with the other hand, close to the blade.

What is not published

The angle. Assume Western, around 20° per side, and keep hard Japanese blades on a stone.

What we rate, and what we do not

Strengths

  • The whole block comes out, not just a head — the most thorough cleaning design here
  • A heavy base, which is what stops a sharpener sliding mid-pull
  • Stated to handle ceramic knives as well as steel

Compromises

  • No angle published
  • Ceramic knives chip readily, whatever a sharpener claims
  • Fixed angle, as all pull-throughs are

The questions that come in

Why does cleaning a sharpener matter?

Steel filings accumulate between the abrasive wheels. A sharpener that fills up cuts less and less, and most people conclude the tool has worn out when it has simply clogged.

Can ceramic knives really be sharpened here?

The maker states so. Ceramic is very hard and very brittle — it needs diamond abrasive and a light hand, and chipping is a real risk on any guided device.
