What you are getting

A chimney starter of 10.7 × 6.5 × 6.5 inches in 0.6 mm zinc-coated galvanized steel, with a nylon handle and a heat shield, and vents up the side.

Three figures nobody else publishes together

0.6 mm of steel. The only thickness on this shelf. It is also thin — a chimney runs at coal temperature every time it is used, and a light-gauge body warps and eventually splits at the seam.

Ten to fifteen minutes, which matches BEAU JARDIN exactly and Weber’s “under 15 minutes”.

A 30-day warranty — the only warranty on this shelf, and short.

And the only quantity of newspaper

“3 pieces of newspaper which was crunched up in the bottom. then lite them. 15 minutes later the coals is ready”

Every other listing says “crumpled newspaper or fire starter cubes” and leaves you to guess. Three sheets is a useful number.

BEAU JARDIN adds the one thing CADARA does not: the cubes “can even work normally on rainy days”, where damp paper will not.

Vents up the side, holes at the base

Large diameter holes at the base for lighting your lighter fluid or newspapers.

Only Kingsford’s Heavy Duty describes both openings as fully.

What is not published

No capacity — three starters here publish one. No weight beyond the catalog’s 798 g. And the zinc coating is the part a chimney loses first; The Bincho Grill on this shelf is the only listing to say so.

The questions that come in

Is 0.6 mm (0.02 in) thick enough?

It is thin, and the fact that it is the only thickness published on this shelf cuts both ways. Nought point six millimeters is light-gauge sheet — fine for the first seasons, and the gauge at which a chimney starter eventually fails: the body runs at the temperature of burning charcoal every time it is used, expands and contracts through that cycle, and a thin wall warps and then splits along the rolled seam. For comparison, the catalog weights on this shelf run from 603 g (21.3 oz) (Kingsford Compact) to 1,588 g (56 oz) (The Bincho Grill, stainless), with this at 798 g (28.1 oz) — which is consistent with a light body. No other listing lets you make that judgment at all, which is to CADARA’s credit even though the number is modest.

How much newspaper do I actually need?

Three crumpled sheets, and CADARA is the only listing on this shelf to commit to a quantity: "3 pieces of newspaper which was crunched up in the bottom. then lite them. 15 minutes later the coals is ready." That is genuinely useful, because too little paper goes out before the charcoal catches and too much just makes smoke. The alternative is fire starter cubes, and BEAU JARDIN gives the reason to keep some: they "can even work normally on rainy days", where damp newspaper will not light. homenote describes what good cubes are made of — "harmless wood shavings - odorless and tasteless, will not flavor food". What you should not use is lighter fluid, for the reason Eau states: it leaves a taste.

Is a 30-day warranty worth anything?

It is the only one on this shelf, and it is short. CADARA publishes: "when you receive this charcoal chimney starter if you have any problem, please feel free to contact us" under a 30 days warranty heading. Twelve of the thirteen starters here publish nothing at all — not the two Kingsfords, not either Weber, not Amazon Basics, not the $43.73 Bincho Grill. So thirty days is more than nothing. But it is the wrong length for this product: a chimney starter does not fail on arrival, it fails after two or three seasons of thermal cycling, when the zinc has burned off the inside and the seam has opened. A warranty that expires in a month covers transit damage, not wear.
