Ten to fifteen minutes
The most useful sentence on this shelf, and the only one of its kind.
COGRICHBF puts a number on how long bare cast iron may stay wet, and the number is minutes, not days.
The full routine is right: wipe off oil and residue with a cloth; if you wash with soap and water, dry the grate immediately so the remaining moisture evaporates before storing; and leave a film of cooking oil on it after every cook.
That is correct practice for bare iron. It is also a quiet admission of what bare iron costs you.
And it is worth setting against QuliMetal on this shelf, which claims its bare cast iron won’t chip or rust easily — and publishes no care instructions at all.
Matte, which means bare
Matte cast iron. No porcelain, no enamel, no coating.
Five grates on this shelf are porcelain-coated: Direct Store, Aura, EasiBBQ, Broil King and both Weber Crafted sets. Two are bare: this and QuliMetal. Lodge is bare and pre-seasoned.
What bare iron does better: it touches the food directly, with no glass layer between, so it transfers heat harder and marks better. And there is nothing to chip.
What it does worse: it rusts. That is the only real objection, and it is the reason this page carries a care routine.
So the deciding question is honest and practical: will you oil the grates after every cook? If not, buy coated. If yes, bare iron rewards you, and the seasoning improves with use.
Four hundred and fifty square inches, two grates
Eight cents a square inch, second cheapest on this shelf:
- $0.068 — Direct Store, three grids, 472 sq in
- $0.080 — this, two grates, 450 sq in
- $0.096 — QuliMetal · $0.120 — EasiBBQ · $0.133 — Lodge
- $0.194 — Broil King (one grid) · $0.220 — Aura · $0.277 — Weber Crafted
Note that this is a 2-pack, which the second bullet states plainly. The Broil King at $20.99 is a single grid of 108 square inches — about $63 for three.

What is missing is a single incompatibility. QuliMetal is the only listing on this shelf that publishes one. And Direct Store gives the advice that covers the gap: measure the size of your original parts and compare with ours before you order.
What is not published
No weight, so the casting thickness cannot be placed against the grates that do publish one — from 10.0 to 18.1 grams per square inch across this shelf.
No warranty. True of all ten grates here.

The questions that come in
Why does the ten-to-fifteen minute rule matter?
Because it is the whole difference between bare cast iron and coated, put into a number — and no other listing on this shelf does it. COGRICHBF publishes: "Do not leave standing water in a cast iron cooking grate for longer than 10-15 minutes. Wipe off excess oil and food residue with a paper towel or cloth. If you decide to clean with soap and water, always dry the grate immediately with a towel to evaporate any remaining moisture before storing. Leave a coating of cooking oil on the cast iron grill grate after each use." That is the correct routine for bare iron, and it is also a quiet admission: bare iron rusts in minutes, not days. Note that QuliMetal on this shelf claims its bare cast iron "won’t chip or rust easily" and publishes no care instructions at all.
Is bare matte iron better than porcelain coated?
For searing, yes; for everything else, it depends on how much maintenance you will actually do. Bare cast iron touches the food directly — no glass layer between — so it transfers heat harder and marks better, and there is no coating to chip. QuliMetal on this shelf argues it outright: solid cast iron "outperform[s] enamel-coated versions in heat retention, durability, and searing ability". Against that, five grates on this shelf are porcelain-coated (Direct Store, Aura, EasiBBQ, Broil King, both Webers) and the reason is rust: enamel does not. The deciding question is honest and practical — will you oil the grates after every cook? If the answer is no, buy coated. If yes, bare iron rewards you, and the seasoning improves with use.
