Forged blades and named grate materials

A set of steak knives and a grill brush.

The knives

Four, forged blade steel, triple-riveted plastic handles, sharp ground edge. Forged rather than stamped is a real construction difference, and a triple rivet is what stops a handle loosening after years of dishwashing.

The brush

30 cm (11.8 in) with steel bristles, stated for stainless, chrome and enamelled grates. Naming the materials is more informative than “for all barbecues” — and it is a warning as much as a claim, since steel bristles pressed hard will mark enamel.

The habit any wire brush requires

Bristles can work loose and stay on a grate. After brushing, wipe the grate with folded damp paper and look at what comes off. Replace a brush that is visibly shedding, and brush a warm grate rather than a cold caked one so less force is needed.

The one to look at first

The steak knives, for the forged construction.
