WMF

Cromargan, and the dimensions printed beside it

WMF appears fifteen times on this site, in more families than any other brand.

What it is genuinely good at

Publishing dimensions. The 24 cm (9.4 in) stockpot states 8.8 liters and 20.5 cm (8.1 in) of height; the 16 cm (6.3 in) saucepan states 1.5 liters and 7.5 cm (3 in); the Dutch oven states 41 × 28.5 × 18 cm (16.1 × 11.2 × 7.1 in), a 30.5 × 18 cm (12 × 7.1 in) base and 8.5 liters. Height is the figure that decides whether a pot fits under an extractor or on a shelf, and most makers publish only the diameter.

The material, repeated

Cromargan 18/10 runs through the range, uncoated on the pots and pans and ceramic-coated on the wok and grill pan. The uncoated pieces are stated oven safe to 250 °C (482 °F); the coated ones are stated to 400 °C (752 °F) in the pan itself.

Where it is ordinary

Knives and consumables. The two-knife set is coated blade steel rather than a forged range, and the honing steel is a plastic-handled 23 cm (9.1 in) bar — competent, and outclassed by the specialists in those hubs.

The one to look at first

The 4.5 liter pressure cooker, which publishes both of its pressure settings as temperatures — 110 °C (230 °F) and 119 °C (246 °F) — rather than as symbols.
